Although we've planned romantic getaways for couples for years, 2019 marks our first year planning destination weddings. As I reflect on this new journey I can't help but think of our wedding almost 40 years ago, knowing what I know now we actually had a “Destination Wedding”. Here’s a little about our story.
Looking back we were both really young “kids” and we had no business getting married. He was almost twenty and I had just barely turned 18, but it was something we had both wanted to do and being young we followed our heart. Now don’t get me wrong as was mentioned that was almost 40 years ago and we are still happily married . . . (most days).
Unlike many young girls in those days I did not have my ideal wedding planned out, I didn't fantasize about my dream wedding I actually had no thoughts of a wedding at all. You see I had already planned out my life and a wedding was not a part of it. My friends today tell me that my plans were a little backwards from the traditional layout, (and as you get to know me you’ll realize I do like to think outside the box). I had already enrolled in college in Sacramento, CA which is about 45 miles away from my home town and because I love design and sewing my sights were on fashion design (back in the day one of my favorite movies was Mahogany featuring Dianna Ross and Billy Dee Williams). You see marriage wasn’t a necessary requirement for me to have all I had dreamt of. But, things change, people come into your life that changes them forever and sometime you have to listen to that gut feeling.
